BLOOMVILLE - Bloomville Mayor Steve George proclaimed May to be Motorcycle Awareness Month, raising awareness for road safety with warmer weather approaching, during the Wednesday council meeting.
Councilman Bill Oliver questioned the log sheets of police officers. He said he would like a more detailed log of how they spend their time on duty. Chief Howard Minzer said everything is recorded digitally now. Oliver said he wants them to be more accountable for their hours. Solicitor Tim Hoover said some information is not intended to be public record.
Oliver also reported on the recent zoning commission meeting. He said a third of the policies and regulations have been reviewed and the committee plans to meet again Wednesday.
The house at 16 Scott St. has been declared condemned by the Seneca County Health District. They are to have a hearing on the property Thursday and the owners have until Oct. 1 to bring the house up to code for living standards.
Council members discussed cleaning up some condemned properties.
Clouse Electric plans to be at Beeghly Field Monday to repair the ball field lights and provide a new rope for the flag pole.
With warmer weather, four-wheelers have been observed running on the streets in the village. Bloomville has an ordinance to prevent four-wheelers on the streets and others' properties without permission.
George said trash is being dumped at the sewer plant. Council is considering the installation of cameras to discover the culprits.
He said village employees are to pick up brush, but it must be bundled for easier handling and yard waste must be bagged. Employees will not be picking up large limbs or raked debris.
Residents also may haul brush to the sewer plant but are to contact the village office for permission first.
In other action, council:
Learned the village office is to be closed today for Good Friday.
Announced the Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. Saturday at Beeghly Park for children in sixth grade and younger.
Said Bloom Township trustees are to attend the next council meeting to discuss EMS.
Announced community garage sales June 6-7. Those interested are to sign up at the village office to be placed on the map.
Approved the ordinance to appropriate additional expenses and declare an emergency.
Heard lifeguards are needed for the 2014 season.
Said George is attending Mayor's Court training Oct. 17.
