Fostoria has selected its new police chief.
Safety Service Director Allyson Murray said Tuesday night that Keith Loreno, currently the city's fire chief, was selected Tuesday to become the next police chief.
Loreno is to serve only as the police chief, Murray said.
Mayor Eric Keckler said Loreno was approved at Tuesday's city council meeting and will be sworn in at the next council meeting May 6.
Loreno was hired as the city's fire chief in 2010 and previously served as an investigator for the State Fire Marshal's Office.
Attempts to contact Loreno Tuesday night were unsuccessful.
Other applicants for the police chief position included Detective Sgt. Don Joseph of the Seneca County Sheriff's Office and Capt. Patrick Brooks of the Fostoria Police Department. Brooks has been serving as captain in charge of police operations at the department following former police Chief John McGuire's medical leave more than a year ago.
McGuire announced his retirement in December.
