Bettsville Track

March 28, 2014
The Advertiser-Tribune

Coach: Jeff Lynch, third season.

Returning letterwinners: BOYS - Sophomore Kyle Hager (LJ, throws, sprints).

Others: BOYS - Senior Kenneth Stander (LJ, throws, 400). Sophomore Isiah Nevel (sprints, throws). GIRLS - Junior Kaitlyn Dymond (4x100, throws). Sophomores Erin Smalley (LJ, sprints); Skyler Eckhardt (4x100, 4x200, shot); Alexis Davis (mid-distance, sprints, LJ). Freshmen Alexia Nevel (sprints, LJ); Dayna Dymond (throws).

Outlook: A preseason halt to the softball team led to the girls track squad increasing from two to six athletes while the boys have just three athletes.

Even with the ability to now field a couple relays on the girls side, Lynch said a big portion of the season will lean toward solo efforts.

"Kind of an individual thing. Keep the kids occupied," Lynch said.

"It's going to be an individual, give it your best effort thing," he said. "We're trying to do a lot of local meets so they get experience come tournament time."

While he doesn't expect titles to come his athletes' way, Lynch said he's already confident three of them will compete well.

"I'm not sure with Alexia, I haven't got to work a lot with her yet. Smalley could finish in the upper half in long jump and the 400 [in the MAL]," he said.

"Kenneth is a pretty good athlete. He should be OK in the shot and disc," Lynch said. "Kyle will be OK, too. It'll be nice if he can finish in the middle of the pack in the MAL."
