Columbian Tennis

March 28, 2014
The Advertiser-Tribune

Coach: Chip Weingart

2013: 9-10, 3-7 NOL.

Returning letterwinners: Seniors Nick Gaietto; Braden Kuhn; Hunter Stark; Eline Widman.

Others: Senior Adam Young; Junior Nils Gommel Sophomores Zach Gaietto; Tyler Hawk. Freshmen Ben Klepper; Hayden Stone.

Outlook: Led by the returning letterwinners, Weingart feels his team is poised to improve on last year's record and move toward the head of the Northern Ohio League pack.

"We should have a very solid team this year from top to bottom and should be able to compete with anybody with go up against.

"I would think we are a contender for the NOL title."

Back are last year's No. 1 (Nick Gaietto) and No. 2 (Kuhn) singles players. Gaietto was a district qualifier last year, and Weingart thinks both have the ability to reach that level this year.

"I think Nick and Braden both have goals of making it to the district tournament," Weingart said. "Its the fourth year on varsity for both of them. They're both four-year lettermen. I'm really looking for them to lead our team this year."

At the varsity level, Weingart says all of his players come equipped with experience. He says it will be a benefit on the way he works with his players.

"A lot of our guys have some playing experience," he said. "Some played some varsity last year, although not enough to earn a letter, and others have played in the summertime. We play a lot of summer matches. They're all experienced players, even the incoming kids.

"That makes it a lot better because you can talk strategy instead of technique with every player."
