Trooper pinned between vehicles sustains severe injuries

A State Highway Patrol trooper was severely injured while at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on the Ohio Turnpike. The crashes stretched more than a mile and involved 40 or more vehicles, according to the state patrol. The trooper was pinned between two vehicles while at the scene scene of a mile-long stretch of crashes on the Ohio Turnpike eastbound in Sandusky County. The crashes have left three people dead. The first crash was reported around 1:25 p.m. and patrol personnel learned the trooper was pinned at 2:05 p.m. The trooper was transported to Firelands Hospital in Sandusky with severe injuries, according to the state patrol. The Ohio Turnpike is closed in both directions, and crews are working to reroute traffic.
