Perfection 'strikes' on first night of city bowling tournament

February 26, 2014
By Al Stephenson - AT Bowling Columnist , The Advertiser-Tribune

If I have learned one thing from all the years of watching local keglers compete in the Tiffin City Bowling Tournament, it would be to expect the unexpected. Perhaps the most typical comment during the week is to complain about lane conditions or bad breaks. Rustan Burks wasn't harping about either of those things on opening night as he fired 12 consecutive strikes for a perfect game during singles competition. This year marks the 84th edition of the Tiffin Men's Bowling Association sponsored city tournament. Singles and doubles start the week for the men and Burks was determined to make his mark. He started with a 192 game before rolling 188 in the second. He saved his best for last as the 300 led to a 680 series. With handicap he lodged a 731 total that was, believe it or not, only good for second place on the evening.
