Seneca County Park District wrapping up planning effort

February 15, 2014

Seneca County Park District is to have a set of specific goals and a plan for reaching them when the district's strategic planning process is completed by the end of March.

The study, which began in April, is designed to lead the park district into the future.

"We're writing the final details with the specific measurable goals and objectives," said board member Bill McAllister, who is leading the planning process. He plans to submit the completed plan to the board at its March 25 meeting.

Joining McAllister on the task force are Jim Nordholt from the board, John Crumrine and Karin Brown representing Friends of the Seneca County Park District, and community members Lori Hall of Tiffin University and Cathy Nagle-Ervin of Eastern National, a retailer that works with the National Park Service.

They have been collecting input from personal interviews with county, city, village and township officials, as well as schools, agencies, organizations, community members and park volunteers.

After reviewing information collected the committee summarized the data and discovered a need for more awareness of the park district in the community.

"The SCPD enjoys a good reputation and is held in high regard by those people who are familiar with the parks," the committee's summary said. "The mission of the parks is being fulfilled by those who use them, and 52% of respondents are willing to support the development and maintenance of the parks. This seems to be a high percentage among those who responded."

After summarizing the results of surveys and polls, the committee asked for help with specific ideas from the rest of the board and from the Friends organization through small-group discussions in January.

Committee members now are writing specific, measurable goals and objectives.
