Elwood E. Smith

Elwood E. Smith, 98, of rural Sycamore, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Upper Sandusky.

He was born May 23, 1915, in Attica, to Edson and Laurel Smith. He married Kathryn L. (Riedel) Smith Dec. 28, 1940, in Attica, and she preceded him in death July 22, 2008.

Surviving is one son, James E. Eastman of Sycamore; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marguerite Aubrey of Utah.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Edson C. Smith.

Elwood was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II from 1942-1945. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars.

His funeral will begin at noon Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, 201 W. Saffel Ave., Sycamore, with the Rev. Rick Dawson officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore.

Visitation will be 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the funeral home.
