Seneca County deer kills total 1,641
When deer-archery season ended Sunday, closing all deer hunting for the season, Seneca County hunters had totaled 1,641 deer, a decrease of 282 from 1,923 the previous season.
Statewide, hunters checked 191,459 white-tailed deer, a decrease of 27,451 from last year's total of 218,910.
Numbers were similar in neighboring counties: Crawford, 1,033 (1,236); Hancock, 908 (1,338); Huron, 2,139 (2,298); Sandusky, 773 (794); Wood, 729 (863); and Wyandot, 1,410 (1,670).
According to Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife Chief Scott Zody, the decline was expected. It follows several years of liberal bag limits and deer regulations, which helped bring the population closer to target levels.
