Heidelberg University's school of music is to host an organ recital by Anthony Williams at 4 p.m. Feb. 16 at Trinity United Church of Christ.
Williams is associate professor of music and university organist at Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn., where he teaches courses in organ, music history and American and African-American music. He began his teaching career at Fisk and also spent 15 years teaching at Dillard University in New Orleans.
As a church musician, Williams has had positions in Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan and Louisiana and now serves as organist and choir director at First Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville, Tenn. He has given organ performances at various churches, festivals and schools across the U.S., as well as in Europe and Central America.
His Heidelberg appearance is to include selections from such composers as J.S. Bach, Joseph Jongen, Louis Vierne, Mark Fax, Ralph Simpson and Florence Price.
The concert is free.
In addition to his guest recital, Williams will give a master class at Christ Presbyterian Church in Toledo at 10 a.m. Feb. 15.
