The 6th annual "From the Heart" food drive began Saturday and is to run through Feb. 14.
This effort once again is being organized to replenish the inventories at local food banks through donations of commercially canned and/or non-perishable food items, and household cleaning and personal supplies.
Tiffin and Seneca County residents can leave donations at the Tiffin-Seneca United Way, 201 S. Washington St., Heritage IGA, and at area churches. Volunteers will be on hand to unload any donations dropped off 1-3 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Salvation Army, 505 E. Market St.
The "From the Heart" food drive originated with the Community Task Force as a way to help individuals and families who are struggling to make ends meet and the continuing need of food supplies at local food banks. Many are facing shortages due to the demand for help. Local social service agencies have reported a dramatic rise over the past year in the number of citizens seeking assistance.
All collected items will remain in the Tiffin community and will be donated to the Salvation Army, FISH of Tiffin and Morrison House. Cash donations also are welcome.
