Joanne L. Holderman

Joanne L. Holderman, 87, of Fostoria, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 31, 2014, at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay, where her family spent this final week with her.

She was born May 29, 1926, in Fostoria, to Glenn V. and Helen (Dieter) Emerine. She married Jack R. Holderman Oct. 19, 1946, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, and he died Jan. 13, 2013.

Surviving are three children, David Michael (Susan) Holderman of Fostoria, Stephen J. (Dianne) Holderman of Risingsun and Stacey A. (Mark) Turpin of Dayton; six grandchildren, Charity Bracy, Kimberley Cortez, Nicholis Holderman, and Kylie, Mark and Andrew Turpin; eight great-grandchildren, Brandon, Allen, Christopher, Olivia, Hayley, Luke, Adele and Jack; and her faithful companion, Jack, a Brittany spaniel dog.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Robin Holderman; a brother, James V. Emerine; and a sister, Shirley Wright.

Joanne was a homemaker, a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church and longtime member of its memorial choir. She graduated from St. Wendelin High School in 1944 and, in earlier years, she was a waitress at Mickey's Tea Room in Fostoria. One of the highlights of her life was when she played in the parish musical "The Fiddler on the Roof" in 1971; with friends and parishioners, the production was presented at St. Wendelin High School gymnasium. She also enjoyed working summers at Schetter's Market in Fostoria, where she visited with the customers and her friends.

Joanne was a loving wife and mother, who dearly enjoyed her family. She appreciated and was very fond of her recent caregivers.

Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Hoening Funeral Home, 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, where a Christian wake service will begin at 3:45 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial is at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, where a rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Knollcrest Cemetery, Arcadia.

Memorials are suggested to St. Wendelin Church.
