Marie L. Scherger

Marie L. Scherger, 93, of New Riegel, passed away at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.

She was born Sept. 12, 1920, in New Riegel, to A.G. and Catherine (Reinhart) Schalk. She married James M. Scherger Nov. 30, 1940, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel, and he died Nov. 29, 2000.

Surviving are five children, Shirley (Donald) Rogier of Risingsun, Kenneth J. (Betty) Scherger of Jupiter, Fla., Mary Jane (Bill) Weinandy of Findlay, Steven J. (Lucy) Scherger of Carey and William J. Scherger of New Riegel; 16 grandchildren, Joe, Chris, Marcus and Dawn Rogier, Nikki McIver, Phaedra Swonger, April Mowery, Renee McMahon, Scott Scherger, Shanna Kahan, Jeremy and Eli Weinandy, and Dominic, Justin, Nicholas and John Scherger; 22 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Simon (Martha) Schalk of Carey, Raymond (Annie) Schalk of Findlay and Arthur (Shirley) Schalk of New Riegel; and two sisters, Gervase Craig and Rose Smith, both of Tiffin.

She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Rita Wurm, Irene Elchert and Alice Nye; and three brothers, Florus, George and Bruno Schalk.

Marie was a homemaker, a member of All Saints Parish, New Riegel, and its Rosary Altar Society, the New Riegel American Legion Auxiliary, New Riegel Moose and the former T Squares - a square dance group. She also raised toy fox terrier show dogs.

Marie enjoyed her extended family at St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria, and appreciated the fine care.

Her Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at All Saints Catholic Church, New Riegel, where visitation will take place from 10-11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery, New Riegel.

Memorials are suggested to the church or a charity of the donor's choice in care of Hoening Funeral Home, 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, OH 44830.
