The Tiffin Police Department now is accepting applications for its second annual Citizen's Police Academy.
According to a news release, the Citizen's Police Academy is for area citizens and business owners interested in learning more about how the police department operates and the policing challenges the community faces.
The academy training is to consist of classroom and "hands on" training, with an emphasis on student involvement. The program is designed to develop positive relations between the police and the community through education, the release states.
The academy is to begin March 18, and classes are to meet for eleven consecutive Tuesdays 7-9:30 p.m. in the Tiffin Police Department training room. Graduation is set for May 27. Participation requires a commitment to attend all classes. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Ohio driver's license or ID card. Applicants also must reside or own a business within the city of Tiffin and agree to a background check.
Anyone interested in participating in the Citizen's Police Academy should pick up an application packet at the Tiffin Police Department, 51 E. Market St. Class size is limited to 15 students. The deadline to turn in completed applications is Feb. 14.
