With a vision to educate gardeners and green-minded consumers, Ryan Feasel operates GreenMart in West Independence.
Feasel described the store as a "garden center with a twist" and an "everything green store." He said while he now stocks indoor and outdoor gardening supplies, seed kits, organic fertilizers and soils, grow lights, hydroponics and other gardening materials, he hopes to transform the location into a "year-round farmers' market."
Feasel said he grew up around lawn care and gardening and learned the art of growing and gardening. He said his focus at GreenMart is not only to supply the materials needed by customers, but to "teach people how to grow fruits and vegetables all year 'round."
Many people, he said, are not aware certain types of plants can be grown 12 months of the year.
Not only can indoor artificial light be used for indoor off-season gardening, Feasel said, but plants such as kale, carrots and some greens can be grown outdoors during colder months.
Also, the store concentrates on the ever-expanding market for organic produce and foods and offers guidance on growing and gardening according to organic guidelines.
While the store now is focused on providing gardening materials and instruction, Feasel said his plan for the future includes offering produce, grown in-house, and an extended line of green products.
One of those products, he said, is solar panels, which Feasel said he hopes to sell and install for customers as the store expands. The large-scale vision for GreenMart includes a growing focus on energy efficiency, he said.
GreenMart is between Findlay and Tiffin, at 22971 US 224. Further details can be found at the store's Facebook page, Green-Mart-LLC, or by calling (419) 889-1962.
