Herval L. Thallman, 98, of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 14, 2014, at Seneca House, Tiffin.
He was born March 18, 1915, in Green Springs, to Arthur L. and Bertha (Shoumaker) Thallman. He married Claudine Bitler Aug. 28, 1938, in Bloomville, and she preceded him in death March 2, 1983.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet A. (Thomas) Quarrie of Findlay; three sons, Wayne (Donna) Thallman of Tiffin, Daniel (Jane) Thallman of Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., and Martin (Anne) Thallman of Atlanta, Ga.; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Marjorie Johnson of Bascom and Mrs. Beulah Zavodnik of Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Thallman in 1998; two brothers, Willard and Earlin Thallman; and a sister, Florence Heaton.
Herval was a graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and a member of the Tiffin Eagles and Tiffin Moose Lodge. He had worked for 27 years as a caster at American Standard, retiring in 1977. He also was a farmer, devoting his whole life to farming in Seneca County.
He was an avid euchre player and enjoyed sports. He never missed attending the Seneca County Fair for nearly nine decades, where he was always present for the horse pulling contests.
Herval's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the staff of the Seneca House for the warm and loving care he received while living there.
His funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with Pastor Jack Kocsis officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bloomville.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at the funeral home.
