Daniel L. "Groundhog" Cross, 61, of Sycamore, passed away peacefully, at 7:13 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 1, 1952, in Tiffin, to Vearl E. and Dorothy Mae (Parlette) Cross. He married Alice E. Rose July 28, 1990, and she survives him in Sycamore.
Also surviving are three sons, Benjamin (Rachel) Cross of Forest, Brent (Dawn) Cross of McCutchenville and Harley Cross of Sycamore; two daughters, Robin Brose of Sycamore and Crystal (Jeremy Mahon) Hicks of Tiffin; eight grandchildren, Tanna, Jessie, Trenton, Jaden, Benji, TJ, Axel and Riley; two sisters, Mary (Charles) Dunlap of Upper Sandusky and Judy (William) Snyder of Salt Lake City, Utah; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brandon, in 2003; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Ray Culver; an infant brother, David; two nephews, Brian and Edward Dunlap; and two nieces, Lisa Culver and Anette Snyder.
Mr. Cross was a truck driver for many years and a member of American Legion Post No. 250, Sycamore. He loved to ride his motorcycle, watch old westerns and have a good time. "Groundhog" will be greatly missed by his family and friends
A special thank-you to his aide and nurse, Nan and Sue, who helped him these last few years.
His funeral will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Rev. James Spurlock officiating.
Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. It is requested that jeans and T-shirts be worn.
