David Lee Koons passed away at 6:52 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at University of Toledo Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 9, 1951, to Norman and Elsie (Riedel) Koons. They are deceased. He married Angela Huss Oct. 25, 1975, at St. Boniface Church, New Riegel, and she survives.
Also surviving are a son, Christopher (Michelle) Koons of Toledo; two grandchildren, Mason and Hallie Koons, who Papa Dave dearly loved; and two sisters, Norma (Jim) Button of Spring Lake, N.C., and Denise Durst of Fostoria.
David graduated from Fostoria High School in 1970 and attended police academy in Willard. He retired in 2012 from Department of Rehabilitation and Correction in Toledo as a corrections officer. He worked at Chrysler and Lima tank plant. He was chief of police for New Riegel for 16 years, a member of All Saints Parish, New Riegel, Catholic Order of Foresters and Master Mason of Enterprise Lodge No. 579 of Sycamore.
David enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and telling jokes and stories. He also spent many summer days at the lake on the Wave Runner or on the shore.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Mann-Hare-Hoening Funeral Home, 407 N. Countyline St., Fostoria.
His funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at All Saints Catholic Church, New Riegel, with Fr. Tim Kummerer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery, New Riegel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Victor D. Huss Vocational Fund or a charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
