Russell W. Snyder

Russell W. Snyder, age 98, formerly of Sycamore, died at 4:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Elmwood at the Shawhan, Tiffin.

He was born April 8,1915, in Melmore, to George and Mabel (Wingart) Snyder Mesnard. He married Mary "Ginny" (Carn) Snyder Aug. 8, 1937, and she died April 19, 2008.

Surviving are the following children, Dennis J. (Judy) Snyder, rural Sycamore, and Sandra (Arthur) Snyder Williams, Melmore. Also surviving are six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Snyder; brother, Howard Snyder; and a sister, Ruth Keller; besides his wife; and parents.

Russell was a 1931 graduate of Melmore High School and attended Ohio State University. He was a member of the Melmore United Methodist Church. He was the former owner of Snyder Implement in Melmore, for 45 years. He also worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation as a mechanic for 12 years and also farmed. Also at one time he ran the France Stone Quarry in Marion and Toledo.

Russell was a member of Melmore IOOF Lodge No. 174, member of Seneca Lodge No. 790 F& A.M.,Republic, member of the Zenobia Shrine, Toledo, member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite-Valley of Toledo, and a life member of Sycamore American Legion Post No. 250. He also was a WWII Navy Seabees veteran serving in the South Pacific.

For hobbies Russell liked to go fishing and boating, spend time with his grandchildren and playing with his dog "Cricket."

Funeral for Russell will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31,2013, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Rev. Jane-Ann Clarke officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Creek Cemetery, Seneca County, where the Sycamore American Legion Post No. 250 will conduct a military graveside service.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30,2013, at the funeral home where a masonic service will be held at 8 p.m., Monday evening.
