Mike "Murph" Murphy, 70, of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 24, 2013, at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center.
He was born Sept. 1, 1943, in Tiffin, to Robert and Vernice (Martin) Murphy. He married Dorothy Mitchell May 6, 1967, in St. Mary Catholic Church, and she preceded him in death Nov. 26, 2005.
Survivors include his daughter, Pamela Murphy of Tiffin; grandchildren, Jaylen and Bishop Florence; five brothers, Patrick (Candace) Murphy, Tim Murphy, Fred Murphy and Ned (Patti Hess) Murphy, all of Tiffin, and Ted (Patricia Duty) Murphy of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Kathy Burgderfer of Tiffin and Jackie (Jim) Jacoby of Melmore; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Bissel of New Castle, Calif.
He also was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Jerry Burgderfer.
Mike was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and graduated in 1961 from Calvert High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1965. Mike was a carpenter with The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 2239, Fremont, working in various nuclear power plants around the area.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping at Lake Erie, laughing, traveling and playing poker with family and friends. Most of all, he was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and brother. He was a member of Tiffin AMVETS Post 48, VFW Post 2858, Tiffin Moose 846 and Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 402, in Tiffin.
His Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Walters officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, with the United Veterans
Council conducting military honors. A rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.
