Father Kieran Kay, OFM Conv., died Dec. 12, 2013, at St. Francis Home in Tiffin.
He was born Sylvester Peter Kay in 1929 in Detroit, Mich., to Sylvester and Aurelia (Melloh) Kay. He entered the Conventual Franciscan Novitiate in 1946, and professed first vows in 1947. He professed solemn vows in 1950, and was ordained a priest in 1955. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Lois Anne Kay Schroll, and survived by his sister Jacqueline Theresa Kay Bass.
In his ministries as teacher, chaplain and spiritual director, he served at Mount St. Francis, Ind., Carey, Ohio, Lansing, Mich., Auburn, Ind., Prior Lake, Minn., Chicago Heights, Ill., Sylvania, Ohio, and Canton, Ohio.
The services for Father Kieran will be as follows, 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, visitation and 11 a.m. prayer service at the Chapel of Saint Francis Home, 182 St. Francis Avenue, Tiffin; 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, visitation and 11 a.m. Mass at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, (lunch will follow); and 10:30 a.m.Wednesday, Dec. 18, remembrance service and 11 a.m. Mass at Mount St. Francis, Ind., with burial in the Friars' Cemetery.
