Mary Louise Fleece, 90, formerly of Carey, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at 9:25 p.m. at St. Catherine's Manor, Fostoria, where she resided the past eight months.
She was born July 17, 1923, in Wyandot County, daughter of the late W. Allen and M. Cecelia (Sontag) Vaughn. She married Howard E. Fleece May 21, 1942, at Our Lady of Consolation Church, Carey, and he preceded her in death Jan. 9, 1972.
Surviving are two sons, Robert "Bob" Fleece of Tiffin and James "Jim" (Judy) Fleece of Carey; eight grandchildren, David Fleece, Christine Wentling, Aaron Fleece, Ryan Fleece, Mark Stock, Melissa Stock, Amanda Wrobleski and Michael Fleece; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Delores Vaughn of Carey and Pat Vaughn of New Riegel.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Nye; a son, William Fleece; four brothers, Michael, Leo, William and Richard Vaughn; and one sister, Evelyn Myers.
Mary Louise was a 1941 graduate of Carey High School. She was a homemaker. She had cooked at Carey High School and volunteered for the Wyandot County Board of Elections for many years. She was a member of The Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Church, Carey, where she also was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She was a charter and life member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary No. 3759 and American Legion Auxiliary No. 344. She also was an avid reader.
Friends and family will be received from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey.
Her Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at The Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, with the Rev. Xavier Goulet, OFM Conv., officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Carey.
