A person was taken into custody around 5:15 a.m. today after law enforcement officers worked for several hours to locate him after receiving reports of shots being fired.
Tiffin Police Department initially responded to reports from multiple people of shots being fired. Chief Fred Stevens said officers arrived to 228 S. Sandusky St., an apartment building, and went into a nearby alley. An officer saw a person dart toward stairs in the apartment building and smelled gun powder.
Assistance was called in. The police department's special response team and negotiator team, State Highway Patrol's SRT and Seneca County Sheriff's Office assisted. They were at the scene for several hours early this morning.
The man, who was arrested outside of the apartment building, is a resident of the apartment in which he was found, the chief said. The person's identity is not available at this time. Alcohol was involved in the incident, he said.
No one was injured, Stevens said.
Several blocks around the scene were blocked but have reopened. Also, people who were evacuated from their homes have been granted permission to return.
UPDATE 8:10 a.m.: Three men and a woman are being detained at the police station and are being questioned about the shooting. A search warrant is being obtained to get gunshot residue tests on all of them as at least one is
being uncooperative, according to a release. A search warrant also is sought for the apartment they were located in.
UPDATE 9:40 a.m.: Arrested and taken to Seneca County Jail was Seth E. McMeen, 24. He was charged with inducing panic and discharging a weapon in the city limits. A second male may possibly be charged after further investigation, according to the police department.
