After 28 years as owner of the Community Civic Center, Judy Theis plans to close the facility's doors Dec. 31.
Theis said the decision to close was "bittersweet," and she will "miss it and the people."
"It's a beautiful building," she said, "but it's time to retire."
Theis said she sought a buyer for the Civic Center, 151 S. Washington St., for "a long time," but wasn't able to find anyone interested in purchasing the property. She said if a buyer steps up after the facility closes, she will be open to offers.
The Community Civic Center has offered banquet, meeting, party and reception space in downtown Tiffin, and local organizations have hosted monthly and weekly meetings there over the years.
Connie Cole, secretary of Tiffin Lions Club, said the Lions weighed their options after learning they would no longer be able to meet at the Civic Center, and ultimately decided on the Moose Lodge, 1146 N. SR 53.
Cole said the Moose offered a reasonable price for the facility and food, and also has a good sound system and plenty of parking space. The Moose Lodge, she said, has "a lot of things to offer."
The Lions' first meeting at the Moose is to be at 6 p.m. Jan. 6. The organization, she said, will have no meetings until then, but instead will be making popcorn balls on meeting nights for the club's annual popcorn ball fundraiser.
Cole said Lions members were "all sad" about the closing of the Civic Center. "She (Judy Theis) always offered good care and food."
The Rotary Club of Tiffin has been meeting weekly at the Civic Center since about 1994, said President Bernard Hohman, and also had to seek a new location due to the closing of the Civic Center.
Hohman said choosing a new meeting place required forming a committee.
"It was a tough decision," he said.
The Rotary Club decided on The Pioneer Mill, 255 Riverside Drive, as the best location for its weekly meetings. The vote on the restaurant was "unanimous, or close to unanimous," Hohman said, and Rotary's first meeting there is to be Jan. 8.
Hohman said he hopes the transition to a new meeting facility will be seamless.
