Al ‘Butch’ Trott

Al "Butch" Trott, 95, of Republic, passed away Sunday afternoon, Oct. 27, 2013, at Ruffing Family Care Center, Bloomville.

Butch was born July 13, 1918, in Seneca County, to Charles and Hazel (Homlar) Trott. He married Donna Snavely Jan. 12, 1947, and she survives.

Other survivors include a son, Ron (Chris) Trott of Republic; a daughter, Eileen (Arthur) Ostrander of Hauchuca, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Angie (Matt) Reiter and Ronnie (Nicole) Trott; three great-grandchildren, Caden Trott and Bryce and Karah Reiter; and two sisters, Joyce George and Doris Meyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant granddaughter, Melanie Trott, in 1978; and three sisters, Ruth Steirhoff, Rena Humburg and Taunt Peleman.

Butch served in the U.S. Army as a mechanic during World War II from June 16, 1942, until he was honorably discharged Nov. 2, 1945. He was a 68-year member of the American Legion in Republic and owned Al's Mower Shop, Republic, for more than 36 years, retiring in 2001. He loved his work and enjoyed all of his customers over the years. Butch's dedication allowed him to work until he was 82 years old. He will be greatly missed, but remembered by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as the best family man.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at Block Cemetery, Republic, with Pastor Darla Metz officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, Butch would appreciate donations be made to Bliss Memorial Public Library, Bloomville, where his grandchildren spend so much time, or a local American Legion post of your choice.

Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin, is assisting the family.
