Fred J. Ekleberry, 90, of Upper Sandusky, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky.
Fred was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Nevada, to Fred K. and Anna (Twa) Ekleberry. He married Mary A. Swihart April 26, 1947, and she survives.
He also is survived by two sons, Michael (Jayne) Ekleberry of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Scott Ekleberry of Upper Sandusky; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a great-granddaughter; eight step-greatgrandchildren; and a brother, Gerald "Jerry" (Virginia) Ekleberry of Bucyrus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Virgil, Robert and Kenneth Ekleberry; and three sisters, Luella Green, Rosamond Porter and Beulah Pilliod.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II aboard the USS LST landing craft having served in the Mediterranean, North Africa, Sicily and Anzio.
His funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery, Upper Sandusky where military graveside rites will be conducted.
Visitations will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
