Show to feature model trains
SANDUSKY - Firelands Society of Model Railroaders is to stage a Model Train Show 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the Erie County Fairgrounds, 3110 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
Admission is $5 for adults and free for those 18 and younger.

for ElderCollege's OSU trip
FREMONT - Terra State Community College's ElderCollege is hosting a trip to visit several iconic locations at The Ohio State University in Columbus Oct. 7.
Travelers are to tour Ohio Stadium and walk the sidelines where Woody Hayes once roamed; the Schottenstein Center, where the Buckeyes play basketball; the Yassenoff Recruit Center, filled with pictures of current and former Buckeye greats; and the Steinbrenner Band Center, which is home to the Ohio State marching band.
The group is to travel by motor coach to Columbus. The trip costs $65 and registration and full payment must be made by Friday.
ElderCollege also is sponsoring a trip to the Liberty Air Museum in Port Clinton. A group of dedicated volunteers established the museum to showcase World War II aircraft.
Cost is $15, and participants are to meet at the museum, located at 3515 E. State Street Road, Port Clinton.

Annual Ray of Hope dinner, NAMI awards slated Oct. 13
FREMONT - The 11th annual NAMI Ray of Hope Dinner and Awards is set for 4:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at Anjulina's Catering and Banquet Hall, 2270 W. Hayes Ave., Fremont.
Lois and Lee Waggoner of Fremont are to be honored for more than 13 years of dedication and service to those living with mental illness.
Bob Spada, president of NAMI Ohio, is to be the keynote speaker.
A raffle and music by the Terra State Jazz Band Ambassadors also are planned.
The local NAMI affiliate office works to provide free community resources such as crisis intervention training to law enforcement personnel; family to family education classes to educate family members about various types of mental illness and brain disorders and offer emotional support; free educational materials; suicide prevention sessions; family support groups; recovery support group; autism support group and other supportive and advocacy assistance.
Tickets for the dinner are $25 per person and $350 for a table of eight.

Remembering dead children
SANDUSKY - Stein Hospice's annual remembrance service is to be 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at Children's Memorial Walkway at Epple Park in Sandusky. All individuals who have lost a child are welcome to attend.
The service is to be conducted at the walkway, at the northwest corner of Monroe Street and Columbus Avenue. In case of inclement weather, the service will be at Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky.
