John "Fred" F. Hill, 82, of Green Springs, passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at his home.
He was born Nov. 12, 1930, in Findlay, the son of Walter Myron and Lottie (Yokum) Hill. He married Evelyn Ferres July 7, 1989, in Durant, Okla., and she preceded him in death Oct. 15, 2010.
John served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 with the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War, where he trained soldiers for battle. He worked as a steeple jack after the service. John worked as a truck driver for many years; most recently for Miarer Transportation. He also worked for the Village of Green Springs in the maintenance department.
John was a member of Green Springs American Legion. He loved to drive his truck and tinker. John enjoyed outdoor activities, woodworking and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
John is survived by his five children, Juanita (Paul) Marinoff of Fremont, Kimberly Kincaid of Green Springs, Avis Cole of Bellevue, Alan (Michelle) Hill of Green Springs, Gregg Hill of Sherman, Texas; their mother, Wavalene Slane-Carlson of Fremont; six stepchildren, Jimmy Carrick of Mount Vernon, Rhonda (Keith) Unkefer of Marblehead, Pat (Diane) Giannini of Houston, Texas, Robin (Glen) Chaney of Garland, Texas, Dean (Lisa) Schiller Jr. of Oak Harbor and Ruth Anne (Shannon) Blankenship of Port Clinton; four siblings, Melvin Hill Sr. of Sycamore, Ivan Hill Sr. of Tiffin, James Hill of Fremont and Ruth Wise of Green Springs; 30 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Hill; daughter, Lottie Lee Hill; four siblings, William, David, Myron and Barbara Hill; and a grandson.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 211 N. Broadway St., Green Springs.
His funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the funeral home with Pastor Ben Patrick officiating. Burial will follow at Green Springs Cemetery.
