Old Fort considering solar energy project

September 13, 2013
By Marcy Bishop - Correspondent , The Advertiser-Tribune

OLD FORT - Solar Planet representatives Jerry Corbin and Doug Fox presented a cost-savings proposal to Old Fort Board of Education members Monday night. Although Corbin could not guarantee an exact savings, he could guarantee Old Fort Schools would not pay more than 10 cents per kilowatt-hour. Currently, American Electric Power charges 10 cents per kilowatt-hour while Solar Planet is to charge approximately 7 cents per kilowatt-hour. With installation of a solar panel at the school, the cost could be reduced about 30 percent and there is no cost to the school for the solar panel.
