Herman E. Kiesel

Herman E. Kiesel, 95, of Norwalk and formerly Tiffin, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Norwalk Memorial Home.

He was born April 18, 1918, in Seneca County, to Henry and Mabel (Schubert) Kiesel. He married Frances (Sherman) Kiesel Nov. 8, 1945, and she died Oct. 5, 2010.

Surviving are two children, Larry R. (Susan) Kiesel of North Fairfield and Penny (Dale) Mertz of Bay City, Texas; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He also was preceded in death by one sister, Laverne, and one brother, Richard.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he was involved in the Normandy invasion in which he received six Bronze Stars.

His funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Rev. Matt Garrabrant officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore, where the Sycamore American Legion Post No. 250 will conduct a military graveside service.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at the funeral home.
