Heidelberg's women's soccer ( 0-3-1) hosted Defiance ( 2-2-1) for a game on a humid Wednesday evening that ended in a tie.
At the 65:37 mark, Defiance's Bibiana Parra made a goal off a penalty kick to put the Yellow Jackets up 1-0.
The Student Princes then were held scoreless until the closing minutes. At 86:30, Heidelberg's Christina Neal put the Student Princes back in the game by ripping an unassisted shot from outside the box. The ball was tipped off the keeper and in for the goal, tying the game 1-1.
Neal contributed three shots for Heidelberg and Rachel Gilbert had one. The game went into two overtime periods with no goals allowed.
HU goalie Molly Schriber carried most of those duties, having four saves.
HU men remain undefeated
Heidelberg opened Wednesday's soccer doubleheader in a big way by defeating Defiance 1-0 at home.
The game was scoreless right up to the closing moments of the first period. With two seconds left, a Kurt Wilhelm pass to Heidelberg's Christopher Koczak found the net after he kicked the ball off a deflection from the keeper.
The goal was all HU needed. Heidelberg's Matthew Stevens kept the Yellow Jackets scoreless by making three saves. Heidelberg's win brings them to 3-0.
Fremont Ross blanks Fostoria
FOSTORIA - Fremont Ross traveled to Fostoria Wednesday, and the weather wasn't the only one thing heating up.
The Little Giants ( 4-9) swept each of the singles and double contests against the Redmen (0-13).
In singles play, Fremont's Lauren Emrich defeated Erica Moore 6-0, 6-0. The second match had the Redmen's Autumn Affholder falling to Ross' Emily Hamilton 6-1, 6-0. The Little Giants' Aubrey Fox went over Fostoria's Jillian Smith 6-0, 6-0 to close out singles play.
Doubles play kicked off with Ross' team of Emmie Moyer and Kelly Budra defeating Fostoria's Sabra Tate and Jessica Kauffman 6-0, 6-1. In the final doubles match , Fremont's Jessica Giardina and Charlott Wiejack beat the Redmen's Ellen Guan and Destinie Farris, 6-0, 6-1.
Truckers shut out TC
Columbian's tennis team was swept by Norwalk Wednesday, 5-0.
In singles play, the Truckers' Sara Stoll beat Sarah Guzowski, 6-2, 6-4, while Lauren Ott upended Columbian's Kayla Magrum, 6-0, 6-0. In the final singles match, Karlee Tarkington beat TC's Tiffany Walker, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles play, Norwalk's Lauren Steffanni and Johnna Thomas topped Ashleh Niedermier and Sam Krintzline, 6-0, 6-0; the Truckers other duo of Brenna Berry and Audry Nutter beat AnnMariePetrosino and Olivia Smith by the same score.
Columbian dropped to 5-7, 3-3 in the Northern Ohio League.
