Lindsay Bickley hammered 10 kills and two teammates combined for 10 aces Thursday in Calvert's 25-2, 25-6, 25-6 Midland Athletic League win over Bettsville.
Danielle Kontak and Kelsey Hendrix each served up five aces for the Senecas (4-1, 1-0 MAL).
Megan Casale tossed up 20 assists and Meridith Lucius knocked down six kills.
TC gives 'consistent' effort, beats Willard
WILLARD - Columbian coach Bill Bonham said the word of the night was consistency.
The Tornadoes rallied from a first-game loss to down Northern Ohio League rival Willard, 20-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-18.
"We played consistent," Bonham said. "Every player played at an 80 percent level and that balanced everything out, but our serve-receive was untouchable - two errors all night in serve-receive."
Taylor Reinbolt had 12 digs for TC, which improved to 5-3, 2-1 in the NOL.
Maddie Williams aided Columbian with 14 kills and two aces. She did this despite sitting the first game; Bonham held her out after missing a practice.
Haley Sendelbach also had a big game with 14 kills, six blocks and seven digs, while Alyssa Price added nine kills, Michaela Sharlow six kills and Brandy Phillips and Haley Distel five kills each.
Tessa Fuhrer dished out 21 assists, and added a back-row block.
"This team's starting to move in the right direction," Bonham said. "We're getting that consistency."
SE loses league opener
ATTICA - Kristen Bowerman had a tremendous offensive match for Seneca East, but it wasn't enough
as the Tigers lost their Midland Athletic League opener to St. Joe, 14-25, 25-12, 25-19, 25-18.
Bowerman had 21 kills and six blocks, while Rachel Bauman had 16 assists, five kills, four digs. Mykayla Ruffing had 10 assists and four digs.
Seneca East fell to 3-5 overall.
Rams polish off Royals
UPPER SANDUSKY - Taylor Graboski smashed 16 kills and six blocks, and Upper Sandusky stayed undefeated with a 25-9, 25-15, 25-18 win over North Central Conference foe Wynford.
Jessi Holly had nine kills and six digs for the Rams (6-0, 4-0 NCC) while Jenna Holly added 14 digs.
Madison Bianchi and Graboski had three aces each.
Emma Smith added 32 assists for the Rams.
H-L battles for win in 4
FOSTORIA - Courtney Burns and Shelbi Sauber combined to dominate in attacking, and Hopewell-Loudon held off St. Wendelin in four games, 25-13, 28-30, 25-12, 25-18.
Burns had 25 kills, 20 assists, five digs and six block assists for the Chieftains (2-5, 1-0 Midland Athletic League) while Sauber had 15 kills, 21 assists and five digs.
H-L's Kassie Shaver had a big match in serve-receive, with 11 aces to go with 15 digs and five kills. Kassie Welly had 11 digs, Michelle Welly had 10, while Lexi Feindel added five digs, two kills and two block assists. Baleigh Searles added 10 digs.
St. Wendelin (1-9, 0-1) got 13 kills from Allie Rutter, while Becca Starn had 10. Chloe Reiter had 16 assists, while Meghan Reiter added 15. Mikayla Gilliland had 20 digs.
Old Fort upends NB in three
NORTH BALTIMORE - The games were close, but Old Fort won them all, sweeping North Baltimore 25-22, 25-21, 25-21.
Shelbi Bilger played solid defense for the Stockaders, with 23 digs, while Krista Ward had 12 digs with eight assists. Allison Adelsperger had a Stockader-leading 24 assists to go with eight digs and four aces. Sydney Clouse had a team-best 11 kills, while Jordan Magers had six to go with eight digs. Samantha Hartsel had five kills and four digs for Old Fort.
NR cruises against Lakota
NEW RIEGEL - New Riegel stayed undefeated, cruising to a Midland Athletic League-opening 25-12, 25-12, 25-18 win over Lakota.
Kara Scherger had nine kills and eight digs for the Blue Jackets, who improved to 5-0, 1-0 in the MAL.
Lauren Ladd had three aces and seven assists for the Blue Jackets, while Morgan Noftz added 12 assists and nine digs. Taylor Arbogast registered seven kills, while Alexis Kieffer came up with four kills. Natalie Reinhart and Brittany Gillig had six digs each.
