Lakota Boys Cross Country

September 1, 2013
The Advertiser-Tribune

Coach: Don Windom, 26th year.

2012: Seventh in MAL, fifth in district.

Returning letterwinners: Senior Luke Baker. Juniors Anthony Rasp; Isaac Ritter; Caleb Tolento. Sophomore Matthew Steiner.

Others: Juniors Jonathan Moes; Jerod Wolph. Sophomores Garrett Kern; David Mason; Adrian Vanderbeke. Freshmen Isaac Baker; Paul Mowry; Brant Shank.

Outlook: Lakota graduated three players from the group that finished one team spot away from a regional berth.

This year's squad is younger, with only one senior, but also talented, Windom said. But one thing the Raiders need to do is move the pack up in the race, he said.

"We only have one senior on the team, but I think our juniors and a couple of our sophomores have good experience. We're just hoping they make a step forward," he said.

"Last year they ran in a pack, but the pack was in the back," he said. "This year, we're hoping we can run together again, but move up in the scheme of the race."

Luke Baker, Tolento, Steiner and Rasp return from the team that ran in the district meet, but there is plenty of competition for varsity spots.

"I think we've got some kids who can run fairly good," Windom said.

"I'm pretty happy with the kids we've got out," he said. "They're fun to be with."
