Outlook: The Chieftain top three of Creeger, Gelinas and Gorrell can carry the team a long way. So far in the early season they've had Hopewell-Loudon consistently toward the top of the board at tournaments.

"The top three are playing very well," Maurer said. "How they play is going to determine how we finish."

But to be a complete team, Maurer needs someone to step up to be a consistent fourth. That's where Sendelbach comes into play. After sitting out the season a year ago, Sendelbach came back out and has already paid dividends.

"Garrett played for us two years ago, he came back this year," Maurer said. "We were having to take scores of 119 as our fourth man. He's been shooting in the high 90s and coming down every time he plays."

Gorrell narrowly missed out on a trip to state as an individual a year ago. In the past year, Maurer says his star junior has been working hard and improving his game, playing in American Junior Golf Association events.

"He's been playing a lot of AJGA tournaments all over the nation. He's been playing good and winning points," Maurer said. "He's really working hard on improving his game."

Maurer sees not only the potential for Gorrell to make it far, but for the whole team to play deep into the postseason. But for that to happen, the back end of the lineup has to produce.

"We need to get our No. 4 and 5 man to get lower scores," he said. "Everybody has to play their best golf to advance."
