Outlook: There's a lot of reasons for optimism with the Columbian soccer team. Fourteen reasons, to be exact.
That's the number of letterwinners returning to Ochier's squad this season. As a result, the excitement level is high surrounding the team.
"This is probably the most excited I've been going into a season," he said. "With an experienced team, players with the knowledge of the game, and the skill the have, it makes me pretty excited for the season."
Highlighting the roster is a large and highly-skilled senior class that Ochier says has a lot of chemistry due to years of being on the field together.
"This senior class has been a key part of the varsity roster for three years now, they have a lot of varsity time, and a lot of time playing together playing as kids," he said. "They've been around the game a number of years. They have great team chemistry and are working together really well. In practice, most of the time is spent fine tuning things a little bit here and there, and teaching the younger guys who'll be coming up the next couple years."
Brady, Kiesel and Pauly are all back after they shared the team lead in goals a season ago with eight. Demith returns as the leading point scorer with six goals and six assists. All will be looked upon to play a big role in the Tornado offense.
Meanwhile, Ochier feels the defense is a real solid anchored by Gibson, now in his third year manning the goal.
"Overall, I have six seniors I can put back at defense so we're very experienced there," Ochier said. "Josh Gibson is in his third year as varsity goalkeeper. My defense, I think, is going to be very tough, a strong point of our team as well.
"I don't see too many holes in our roster. We have had some injuries that have really effected us. Hopefully that gets a little better in the next couple weeks. But, I think with our experience and our ability, we'll be in pretty good shape."
