Clay S. Lewis, 46, of Findlay, passed away at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, after a four-year battle with ALS.
Clay was born June 2, 1967, in Tiffin, to John DeWitt and Gwen (Shepherd) Lewis.
Clay worked at Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. for 21 years as an engineer and manager until his disability retirement in 2011. He was a 1985 graduate of Columbian High School and a 1990 graduate of University of Cincinnati, earning his degree in mechanical engineering. Clay also received his MBA from University of Findlay in 2003.
Clay was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, where he volunteered his services over the years as a sound booth operator, church bus driver and Staff-Parish Relations Committee member. Clay was a Corvette enthusiast, and his hobbies included reading and sports activities of many types. He played tennis for University of Cincinnati and continued playing competitively as a member of the Findlay Men's 4.5 team until the time of his diagnosis.
Clay is survived by his wife of 24 years, Kelly (Coffman) Lewis; son, Kevin; daughter, Jenna; mother, Gwen Lewis; sister, Coleen (Jay) Kiesel, all of Findlay, and sister, Deanna (Tom) Parkhurst, of Westerville. Also surviving is Clay's AFS sister, Andrea Laschefski, of Brazil. Clay was preceded in death by his father.
A memorial gathering will be 5-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, at Hufford Family Funeral Home, 1500 Manor Hill Road, Findlay (419) 422-1500. A celebration of Clay's life will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Kreps officiating.
