A motorcyclist was killed after a two-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon on US 23 in Loudon Township.
According to a release from the State Highway Patrol, Kenneth L. Pelton, 43, of Carey, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which was reported at 4:08 p.m. in the 3000 block of US 23.
According to the release, Pelton had been driving a 1993 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on US 23 when he went left of center and began to pass other southbound traffic.
A driver that was southbound on US 23, Cindy Ann Hoepf, 50, of Alvada, was slowing down to turn left into a private drive when her SUV was struck by Pelton's motorcycle.
Pelton was then thrown from his motorcycle and the motorcycle struck a mailbox.
According to the release, Pelton was not wearing a helmet. It is unknown whether alcohol was a factor
Hoepf was not injured, according to the release.
According to Seneca County Sheriff's Office reports, NBS fire, New Riegel EMS, the Echo unit and the sheriff's office were called to the scene of the accident. Life Flight also was called to the accident.
According to the release, US 23 was closed for about three hours following the accident.
