Russell "Russ" M. Smetzler, 52, of Attica, died at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at his residence.
Russ was born Sept. 4, 1960, in Tiffin, to Harlow and Lunetta (Druckenmiller) Smetzler. He married Michelle (Snyder) May 20, 1995, and she died April 30, 1997, in an accident.
Russ is survived by his mother, Lunetta of Tiffin; two daughters, Rachel Young of Kentucky and Michelle Holz of Indiana; two grandchildren, Gavin Young and Morgan Gottfried; two sisters, Renee Williams of Old Fort and Robin (Mike Man) Cleary of Clyde; fiancee, Bobbi Binninger of Attica who has cared for Russ unfailingly for these many years; and two stepchildren, Andrew and Brett Dayton.
Russ worked at the Betty Jane Center for 18 years as a maintenance technician and then worked at North Central Correctional Institute as a guard for seven and a half years. He has been in failing health for several years. His passions were his family, loud music, karate for which he held at black belt and fixing anything.
Russ also was preceded in death by his father; a son, Ryan; and a brother-in-law, Ron Williams.
Visitation for Russell will be 1-2:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory, 135 N. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-1221.
There will be no funeral or burial held at this time.
