The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging Inc. in Mansfield recently learned the agency's scholarship program has received recognition from the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging with an Aging Innovations Award, the highest honor presented by the association to member agencies. The Area Agency on Aging scholarship program was among the top 13 of 57 local aging programs to receive honors during the association's annual conference and trade show July 28-31 in Louisville, Ky.
The Aging Innovations Awards recognize Area Agencies on Aging and Title VI Native American aging programs that implement programs and approaches to support older adults, people with disabilities and their family caregivers. The honored programs are exemplary initiatives that others in the aging network can replicate in their local communities.
The scholarship program was established by the AAA Board of Trustees to provide financial assistance to deserving students seeking higher education related to the field of aging. The program not only assists students in the service area, but also fosters educational growth in the community and highlights the value of education and careers in the aging network.
