Luella B. Hammer

Luella B. Hammer, 85, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday evening, Aug. 8, 2013, at her home.

She was born April 21, 1928, in Rollersville, to Marion and Chloe (Swartz) Kern. She married Ralph E. Hammer March 15, 1948, in Angola, Ind., and he preceded her in death June 3, 2012.

Survivors include three sons, Butch (Barb) Hammer of rural Tiffin, Ralph (Choe) Hammer of Tucson, Ariz., and Gary (Mary) Hammer of Vail, Ariz.; a daughter, Lois Shultz of Risingsun; seven grandchildren, Mark and Lisa Hammer, Joseph Hammer, Gary Hammer II, Doug Shultz, Fred Hammer and Angela DuBois; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Albert Kern of Florida, Edward Kern of Tennessee and Gerald Kern of Gibsonburg; and four sisters, Lily Sterling of Gibsonburg, Jean Barenbrugges of Millbury, Joy Hunt of Gibsonburg and Mudge Thompson of Tennessee.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Joseph James Hammer; grandson, Jeffrey Shultz; three brothers, Francis, Lloyd and Raymond Kern; and three sisters, Iona Hathaway, Ruth Aldrich and infant, Nelly Vera Kern.

Luella was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and attended Woodville High School. She helped with busing at the Seneca County School of Opportunity, enjoyed canning, being a housewife and doing things together with her husband.

Her Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Bascom, with the Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Bascom. A rosary will be prayed 15 minutes prior to Mass.

Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian wake service will begin at 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
