Robert E. Kessler, 88, of New Washington, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Bucyrus Community Hospital.
He was born June 11, 1925, in New Washington, to Oscar and Iva Marie (Vorndran) Kessler. He retired from Timken after 30-plus years and was also a self-employed painter. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, New Washington, and a 4th-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a 63-year member of the American Legion, New Washington, Post No. 405, and a charter member of the New Washington VFW. Bob was an avid gardener, and enjoyed fishing, playing cards and making wine. He also was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Swartzmiller) Kessler, whom he married Jan. 28, 1947; four children, Joe (Bobbie) Kessler of Graham, Wash., Linda Kessler of Bucyrus, and Bernard (Nancy) Kessler and Tom Kessler, both of New Washington; two grandsons, Justin and Gabe Kessler; one great-granddaughter, Addie Kessler; two sisters, Jean (Mel) Evenden of Troy and Yvonne Ramage of Bucyrus; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Iva Kessler; two daughters-in-law, Pam Adams Kessler and Shelley Burge Kessler; and two sisters, Rebecca Nitz and Loraine "Ike" Thacker.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Secor Funeral Home, New Washington.
His funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, New Washington.
Burial will be at a later date at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery, New Washington.
