Ernest S. Tolento

Ernest S. Tolento, 94, of Fremont, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Countryside Continuing Care, Fremont.

He was born May 9, 1919, in Michoacan, Mexico, to Rafael and Olivia (Rubio) Tolento. In 1936, Ernest came to Fremont with his parents to work in the sugar beets. He graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1939.

From 1943-1946, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the infantry division. Ernest married longtime sweetheart, Roberta Garcia, June 27, 1946, at St. Ladis Laus Church, Lorain.

Ernest worked for the railroad in earlier years. After moving to Fremont, Ernest was hired by General Electric, Tiffin. He worked there for 28 years and retired in 1981. He was very active in the church, enjoyed music, and played the guitar and harmonica. He built the home they lived in and enjoyed "country life."

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Roberta; three daughters, Cynthia Colombo of Estacada, Ore., Cecelia Chaney of Salem, Ore. and Esther Young of Tiffin; four siblings, Rafael "Ralph" (Grace) of Fostoria, Alfred (Delores) of Florida, Sister Sarah Tolento of Missouri and Salvador (Carmen) of Arizona; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Ferdinand, Anna, Robert Arthur and infant twins.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 900 North St., Fremont.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Fremont, with the Rev. Michael Zacharias officiating.

Military services will take place immediately following the service in the church parking lot.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Calvary Cemetery, 555 N. Ridge Rd. E., Lorain.

Memorials may be made to the Sandusky County Food Pantry.
