The sixth annual Tiffin Art Fair has a new date, location and format for 2013. It is slated for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 10 on Courthouse Square in downtown Tiffin. Attendees can view original arts and crafts and enjoy music, art demonstrations and activities for children.
Jill Groves is the director of this year's art fair, sponsored by the Tiffin Art Guild and TAG members Mary Lewis and Mark Levans.
For the past two years, the event took place on Frost Parkway, in conjunction with Jazzin' Tiffin; however, Groves said there was not much room to expand. As in the past, the art fair is open to artists who make unique items including fine arts, fine crafts and other quality handmade items.
Last year, community members contributed to the Art Miles Mural Project, which continues this year. Standing at right are Dianne Schafer, designer of the mural, and Joe Moore, who provided the canvas.
Wood carver Paul Reinhart of Tiffin displays the ribbon he won at the 2012 Tiffin Art Fair. With him is Jill Groves, this year’s fair director.
Weaving and painting are to be demonstrated during the fair.
TAG is to sponsor a "People's Choice" award. After viewing all the art in the booths, visitors can vote for their favorite artists. Voting is to take place at the TAG information booth. Ballots are to be available from TAG members and the artists.
This year, a variety of food choices, including smoothies, sandwiches, roasted nuts and other refreshments are to be available for purchase. A number of non-profit organizations are to offer food items for sale.
In November, Tiffin Art Guild is to have an "Off The Wall" fundraiser art auction.
Local artists are to donate paintings, watercolors, drawings, prints, sculpture, jewelry, glass objects and other works, which are to be displayed in the TAG Gallery for at least two weeks prior to the auction.
In anticipation of the auction, TAG is having a contest to design a logo for the event. The logo can be created in pencil, ink, marker, paint or any other medium, and the entry must be on a letter-size sheet of plain white paper. Each participant must include name and phone number, address and email at the bottom of the sheet.
Prizes are to be awarded to the winners. Entries can be dropped off at the gallery, 178 S. Washington St., 1-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday or mailed to TAG, P.O. Box 194, Tiffin OH 44883.
The contest closes Aug. 31.
Lloyd Karcher is to make balloon animals and the KidZone is to return with activities for younger children. TAG volunteers are to guide the children through their projects.
"Kids can create a make-and-take craft project and can draw, paint or color while their adults shop," Groves said.
People of all ages are invited to stop and add paint on the Art Miles Mural Project designed by TAG member Dianne Schafer. No previous painting experience is necessary.
The 12-foot canvas, provided by Joe Moore of the International Cultural Center, will become part of the "Art Miles Mural Project," a colorful 12-year movement combining the efforts of children and adults worldwide to promote global peace and harmony through mural art.
In addition, there is to be a drawing contest and a silent auction to raise funds for TAG operating expenses. Groves said local businesses have donated gift certificates and a few other items, and some of the artists are contributing their work for the auction.
The silent auction sheet is to be in the TAG information tent.
Businesses that have donated auction items are Ewald Furniture, Red Raven Tattoos, Tiffin Bake Shop, Rural King McDonald's, Something Special, Frameworks, King's Engraving, Tiffin Glass Museum, Molyets and Camden Falls/Carmie's.
Live music also is planned, including Tiffin's own Washboard Band.
"Patchwork Nancy will be story-telling and singing from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and David Lester will be playing guitar and singing from 2-4 p.m.," Groves said.
Registration is being accepted for the fair until Thursday. Forms are available at the TAG Gallery, 178 S. Washington St., or they can be downloaded from the group's website at www.tiffinartguild.org.
The fee is $50 for non-members and $35 for TAG members. Entrants must submit at least four photographs of their work. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (419) 902-7966.
