George K. Janson, 92, of Fostoria, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Fostoria Community Hospital.
He was born Aug. 18, 1920, to George and Enda (Cassel) Janson. He married Mariam "Jean" McDonald. They divorced, and she survives. He then married Margaret McDowell, and she survives in Fostoria.
Also surviving is a son, Jerry (Jessica) Janson of Carroll, Iowa; a daughter, Jodi (Charles) Smenda of Medina; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Linda Janson; and a brother, Paul Janson.
George was a teacher, administrator and coach. He coached basketball for Celina High School, Columbian, Tiffin University, Portugal, Mohawk and University of Findlay. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the University of Findlay, Tiffin University and Columbian. He had been the principal of Tiffin East Junior High.
George graduated from Swatara High School, Oberlin, Pa., and continued his education at University of Findlay and Indiana University. He was a member of Christ's Church, Tiffin, and a World War II United States Army veteran.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at Hoening Funeral Home, 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, and from 10 a.m. until the time of his funeral Thursday.
His funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at Hoening Funeral Home, with the Rev. Terry Jones presiding. Burial will follow at the Veterans Memorial Chapel of Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria, with a flag presentation by the United Veterans of Fostoria.
