Sister St. Martin

Sister St. Martin, 78, an Ursuline Sister for 60 years, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at the Ursuline Center, Toledo.

The former Martha Distel, daughter of Arthur and Cora Distel, was born in Tiffin and attended Calvert High School. She entered the Ursuline Convent in 1953 and attended Mary Manse College where she obtained an AB degree in education. Sister taught at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Thomas Aquinas, Rosary Cathedral, St. John and St. Angela Hall, Toledo, St. Joseph, Tiffin, and St. Gerald, Lima.

After 35 years of teaching, Sister St. Martin began a new ministry in helping others as a home health aide and also took charge of maintenance duties at St. Ursula Academy Convent. She was particularly devoted to helping homebound elders stay in their homes for as long as possible.

Sister St. Martin was predeceased in death by her parents; five brothers, Howard, Eugene, Arthur C., Harvey and Richard; and three sisters, Sister Joan of Arc, Henrietta Smyser and Dorothy Dickson.

She is survived by three brothers, Robert, James and John; a sister, Agnes Zeiger; many nieces and nephews; and her sisters and associates of the Ursuline Convent.

Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. today, July 26, 2013, with vigil services beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Ursuline Center, 4035 Indian Road, Toledo.

Funeral litgury will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ursuline Center. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Toledo.
