Clarence E. Bayer, 102, of Tiffin, and former Bloomville and Attica resident, passed away Saturday evening, July 20, 2013, at Ruffing Family Care Center in Bloomville.
He was born Aug. 29, 1910, in Reed Township, Attica, to Edward H. and M. Lurilla ( McAllister) Bayer. He married M. Lucille Shepherd on May 4, 1937, at College Hill Parsonage, and she died July 16, 2002. He later married Violet I. Gurney on June 22, 2003, at Union Pisgah United Methodist Church, and she died June 25, 2012.
Survivors include three sons, Gordon (Karen) Bayer and Neil (Barb) Bayer, all of Attica, and Wade (Jenifer) Bayer of Bloomville; a daughter, Betty (Edward) Dillinger of Bloomville; a stepson, Gary (Jane) Gurney of Attica; a stepdaughter, Janet Swartzmiller of Attica; a stepdaughter-in-law, Barbara Gurney of Bloomville; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Bayer; and two sisters, Frieda Hossler and Mildred Attinger.
Clarence was a member of the Union Pisgah United Methodist Church and The Gideons International. He worked for National Machinery in Tiffin as a machine assembler, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the National Machinery Quarter Century Club. He was also a farmer and dairy farmer.
His funeral is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Union Pisgah United Methodist Church, 7880 S. CR. 35, Attica, with Pastor Pete Bellamy officiating. Burial will follow at Baseline St. Johns Cemetery, Bloomville.
Visitation is 58 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR19, Bloomville.
