BASCOM - Braving storm damage and flooding, the Hopewell Loudon Board of Education met Wednesday evening.
The first day of class for Hopewell Loudon students will be Aug. 21. In a phone interview after the meeting, Superintendent Nicole Jiran said she announced the district received state approval for waiver days. Waiver days are to be used for staff development.
A mandatory athlete and parent meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 20.
As the construction of the new facility reaches completion, there is a short list of touch up items to be addressed. Attention is to be focused on the demolition of the old building. The asbestos abatement needs to be completed by Aug 2. The demolition of the structure by the Abdoo Company of Green Springs is due to begin Aug. 5 and should be completed by the end of November.
Jiran reported bids for the "button up" of the 1987 gym came in 20 percent over estimate. The board accepted Alvada Construction Company's bid of $73,625 in order to proceed with the project. The excess cost will be drawn from the Capital Improvement fund. The $60,000 from the auction also is to be put toward the project.
The board gave its approval for renovation of the baseball dugouts. The Athletic Boosters are responsible for the $17,000 project.
In other business the board approved:
Enrollment in Comp Management for the workers compensation program at the rate of $1,795.
Accepting contract for liability, fleet and property insurance from Ohio School Plan at the cost of $26,011.
Renewing contract with Coca Cola which is to generate approximately $26,000 over a five-year contract.
A new fee schedule for the rental of school facilities.
Contract for the Early Childhood Education Program.
Accepting resignations of certificated staff and hiring of supplemental and classified staff.
The board is to meet at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 14.
