Richard W. Brooks

Richard W. Brooks, 86, of Marion, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at his residence.

He was born July 23, 1926, in Upper Sandusky, to Frank and Anna (Stief) Brooks. He married Stella (Basacos) Brooks Sept. 12, 1954, and she preceded him in death May 27, 2012. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II with the American 182 Infantry where he was awarded the Purple Heart.

He is survived by his daughter, Cathy (Bill) Walker of Tiffin; son, Greg (Gretchen) Brooks of Gahanna; two grandsons; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Arlene Miller of Upper Sandusky; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Catherine Bassler.

His funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Fairpark Baptist Church, Marion, with the Rev. Kenneth Durtsche officiating. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery with Marion County Veterans Council conducting military honors.

Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Boyd-Born Funeral Home, 122 W. Columbia St., Marion.
