Dorothy J. Gress

Dorothy J. Gress, 95, of Port Clinton, passed away, Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Riverview Heathcare Campus, Oak Harbor.

She was born July 10, 1917, in LaPorte, Ind., the daughter of O.T. and Ipha (White) Dysard. She married E. Richard Bowers April 22, 1939, in Willard, and he preceded her in death July 30, 1959. She then married Darrell F. Gress March 7, 1970, in Erie, Pa., and he survives.

In 1985, Dorothy retired from Owens Illinois Training Center. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Port Clinton. She was a member of the Cornelia Chapter of Eastern Star, Republic, and was Worthy Matron from 1984-1985.

She was the first secretary/treasurer of Nugent's Canal Property Owners Assoc. from 1972-1985. An avid sports fan, Dorothy was a very strong supporter of the Detroit Tigers. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.

Survivors include her loving husband of 43 years, Darrell F. Gress of Port Clinton; three children, Beverly A. Mayr of Erie, Pa., James L. (Betty) Bowers of Montgomery, Texas, and Janis M. (Dennis) Ryan of Burgoon; four grandchildren, Paul (Trina) Mayr of Erie, Pa., Dale (Michelle Sees) Mayr of Moncks Corner, S.C., Dawn (Darren) Warren of Magnolia, Texas, and Marc (Jaime) Bowers of Virginia Beach, Va.; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild with another on the way.

Dorothy also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary K. Briggs; and two brothers, John W. Dysard and Joe A. Dysard.

A memorial service for Dorothy will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton, where family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Interment will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Erie, Pa.
