New Riegel Board of Education members approved a negotiated agreement Monday evening between the education association and the board.
Because the association also has approved the agreement that runs July 1 through June 30, 2016, the new contract allows a 2 percent raise for 2013-14, a 1.5 percent raise for 2014-15 and 1 percent for 2015-16.
Superintendent Elaine Nye and Treasurer Jane Schalk said they were pleased they were able to stay within the budget set in the five-year forecast.
Principal Dave Rombach noted several changes to the student handbook and the athletic code of conduct. The use of backpacks is being restricted during the school day. The administration encourages students to use their lockers.
Electronic devices only may be used during lunch period in the auditeria or gymnasium and non-instructional time between classes, before and after school and study hall. Offenders will have a parent contacted to remove it from the school. Parents of athletes must sign off after receiving concussion information.
Rombach said K-6 grade cards are available for pick up in the school office.

Tabled action on the non-certified salary schedule for the 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years.
Approved enrollment in the Ohio SchoolComp 2014 Workers' Compensation group rating program for workers' compensation and unemployment compensation claim management services with an enrollment fee of $615.
Approved the transfer of $4,908.49 from the General Fund to the Termination Benefits Fund.
Amended fiscal year 2013 appropriations, adding $238,200.
Approved temporary appropriations by fund for fiscal year 2014 totaling $2,510,900.
Reduced cafeteria worker and dishwasher hours by a quarter-hour per day effective at the start of 2013-14 school year.
Adopted the American history and government end-of-course exams as presented.
Entered into an agreement with Hopewell-Loudon Board of Education for gifted services for the 2013-14 school year.
Approved a one-year limited contract for teacher Jacqueline Wise for next school year.
Entered into an agreement with Vanguard-Sentinel Career Centers to participate in excess costs of the vocational agriculture satellite program for next school year.
Hired Keith Piper as maintenance supervisor II with nine years experience June 1 through May 31, 2016.
Adopted a pay scale for the transportation director/assistant maintenance position.
Hired Mark Theis as transportation director/assistant maintenance for June 17 through June 16, 2014.
Approved supplemental contracts for next year.
Approved Yvonne Burns as Ohio Graduation Test intervention instructor for June 17-21 for 13 hours as needed at the rate of $16 per hour.
Approved bus driver Joe Stevens for a one-year limited contract for next school year.
Accepted the resignation of Andrew Cardwell as junior varsity boys basketball coach for next school year.
Adopted board policies pertaining to meetings, employment of administrators, evaluation of principals and other administrators, religion in the curriculum, interscholastic athletics, reduction in staff, third grade reading guarantee, grant funds, positive behavior intervention and supports and limited use of restraint and seclusion plus standards based teacher evaluation.
The board's next meeting is at 7 p.m. July 8.
Student achievement liaison Mary Reinhart reported Josh Nye had been named the Rotary student of the month at Sentinel Career Center during May and Jacob Welly received the director's award.
The meeting moved into executive session to discuss compensation for public employees.
Board members agreed to apply for a grant from Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca Joint Solid Waste District for $10,000 toward the purchase of portable aluminum bleachers for the baseball and softball fields made from aluminum which is 90 percent recycled content from BR Athletic Facility Products & Services. Estimated cost is $14,000, plus $1,734 for site preparation and a concrete slab. The school district is to provide at least 36 percent matching funds of $5,735.25, allowing Nye to be the designated contact person.
